Congratulations! Drama students performed your first live audience small production. You put in a good show and the Navigator students really responded to your stories. For each prompt below, write 3 - 5 sentences about your experience.
1. Describe your preparation/practice/build-up to get to the point where you presented it to the Navigator students:
2. What was the funniest thing that happened during the presentation:
3. What would you have done differently and why?
And by the way, 8th grade this counts for five hours of Community Service for the Portfolio.
EXAMPLE:
ReplyDelete1. Our group had to really pull together. At the beginning it didn't feel like a really big deal, but then as we rolled into it - there was pressure to really pull this off in 6:30 minutes. Everyone worked together - it was really good.
2. One of the Navigator students asked a silly question and started everyone else laughing. I forget what it was, but it was hilarious. I think it had to do with our piggy(s).
3. We might of picked a better story. It is difficult to present a story if it is not even interesting to us. Maybe next time, we can wear costumes.
Mason Carruthers 1st Hour-
ReplyDelete1.The practice wasn't that hard for me I only had to ask one or two questions and for the other guys it seemed pretty easy too.
2.The funniest thing that happened during the presentation was when some kid talked to Damon.
3.Probably if we had more time put costumes together or pick a more interesting story.
1.we worked hard and it didn't require much practice
ReplyDelete2.we told them we were going to sell apples to the city and one kid guessed he was going to trade the apples for somthing
3.got more suckers because we were not going to have enough but then you ran out of time.
Reece freeman is better then brandon longoria!
1. Our group was really well put together. We figured out very soon that our story would fall short of 5 minutes so Ashley and Chelsea came up with a good activity. We did not really have a lot of stress.
ReplyDelete2. It was funny to watch the kids try to put on the footie pajamas. They had a difficult time figuring out where there feet went and where their arms went.
3. I don't really think there is anything I would have done differently. I think we picked a good book and everything went very smoothly. Over all it was a good presentation and experience.
Katie Bell 1st hour
Rozlyn Price 1st Hour
ReplyDelete1.) Our group preparation for the story book presentation was seriousness, but we also had a few mess up and giggles while we practiced.
2.) I think the funniest thing that happened was when Jenna sprayed Emily all over with the Silly String. The smell was horrible, but it just added on to the fun and laughs.
3.) I think we could have put more voice into our acting because I saw a couple of kids looking over at different groups while we were reading.
Josh Hess 1st
ReplyDeletewe practiced with and with out the script to remember the script better. The funniest thing that happened was the this kid wanted to eat one of our props. If we could change anything we would have made the story more exciting.
1. My group was working hard some days and slacking off somedays but in the end it was easy to fit it in 6:30. Nathan and I both got our scripts memorized for the most part so I think we did good.
ReplyDelete2. When we called on of the navigator kids a goat (when i read "would you, could you with a goat" I pointed to a kid) the whole group started to laugh even the kid.
3. We could have used more props i think that would have made the story more interesting and easy to follow.
Damon Hartmeier 1st
Preparing for this was the worst part, because there were more than some mistakes. The funniest thing that happened that the kid told Reese that he is going to die. I would have done a different book, because i never read that book before.
ReplyDeleteBrandan longoria 5th hour
1. Our group practiced okay. We didn't put that much effort in at the beginning, but as the days went by, we started pulling it together more.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing that was when we asked the kids what they thought an ultimatum was. We got some funny answers.
3. Something I would've done differently would be to put more character into the characters and to have more emotions.
Claire Wohlfeil, 1st hour
1. I had to practice on getting more into character on my role, and my voice had to be loud enough to hear over everybody and that was a difficult thing to get down.
ReplyDelete2. The most funniest thing that happened was when I i had to shot with silly string over and over again. Also when kids would say the most ridiculous things.
3.I would have chosen a different book, because I wanted more action/more movement in the story telling, not just sort of standing there reading the book.
1. At first we just read. Then we started to realize that we had to add a bit more in to make it interesting. We really got into then, and I believe our final production was good.
ReplyDelete2. One of the times that I had to spray Emily with silly string, my aim was really off! I almost sprayed Roz in the face! :)
3. I think we should have picked a different story. The one we chose was just really hard to act out, and getting props and asking questions wasn't to easy either!
Amanda Barnard 1st hour
ReplyDeleteI had a fun time but our group had to work hard and efficiently to make sure we were doing the best we could.
the funniest thing that happened was from one of the kids who answered our questions.
I would change the book we did because our book wasn't very exciting and we weren't really into the book as much as i would have like to be .
Nathan Haberland 1st Hour
ReplyDelete1. Our group had a lot of last minute adjustments. We had to find props that fit with the story. We had to make a survey on the last day, which was a little stressful.
2. Our group used the Green Eggs & Ham™ book and when Sam asks the other guy if he would eat green eggs & ham with a goat we would point to one of the Navigators.
3. I think we could of picked a more interesting story, more age appropriate. We could have had better props, too.
The funniest thing that happened was when they just watched the book and will know that farm animals do not type. What I would have done differently would be to obserbing what they were doing when I was turning the page.
ReplyDeleteJanelle Monaster 1hr
1. Our group had trouble filling the 6:30 time slot. We had lots of extra time in the beginning but, we dragged out the acting and talked slower by the end. It turned out great!
ReplyDelete2. When a Navigator student answered a question in a funny way. His answer to, based on this picture what do you think is going to happen in this story. His answer was, I think there will be a spider and a fly. This got everyone laughing.
3. We needed more acting and to read slower and better to fill the whole time. Overall I think we did good. Abby Hackett 1st hour
Our group did pretty good together we didn't agree on a lot but we agreed just enough to get it all together and got it to work. we really didn't think that it would be as hard as it was to present to them because if we messed up then they knew. Doing it in 6:30 minutes was pretty hard to get everything that we had to do in there but it seemed to work for us.
ReplyDeleteDuring our activity most o the kids didn't know how to put on the footy pajamas so that was kinda funny and when all of the kids went crazy when we blew bubbles at them during and a little bit after the story.
I think that we could've picked a different story because I think that the story was a little below their age level and that they weren't really into it like they would've been with a story that their teachers used to read to them in class like the book Aaron did was Click Clack Moo, because we used to read it in elementary school and I liked to listen/read that book.

1st Hour.
1. I thought at the beginning few days our group was not really working together and we were just kind of messing around. But then as the day of the presentation was coming closer and closer we realized we had to buckle down and get some work done. We started working really hard and I think we pulled off a great presentation.
ReplyDelete2.We asked a student what happened at the end of the story and he gave a really thought out answer and went way over and beyond what the question was and it was pretty funny.
3.We could have had the kids interact more with the story. The thing that the one group did when they had the kids run around in pajamas was really cool.
Aaron Adams

1. We really didn't get it at first. When we started putting voice in it, and using props it was okay. The end production was pretty good.
ReplyDelete2. One of the times I had to spray Emily with silly string, I completely missed and almost sprayed Roz in the face! :)
3. I think we should have picked a better story. Ours was very hard to act out and pick props.
Jenna Dalrymple

1. I had to practice being in character and thinking that I'm actually the fly. Also I had to practice a loud and clear voice.
ReplyDelete2.The most funniest thing was when Jenna almost sprayed Roslyn's face with the silly string rather than my back/arm.
3. I would pick a different book because I wanted more action/movement in the performance, rather than just standing there reading with a voice.
Emily Racicot, 1st Hour
1. As a group we had to work hard to get the timing if the story book together and really try to have everybody equally participate so that this event could pull through and I feel as though it really did. Also, we all had to make sure we had all of our props ready, and on time. Since we had all these things prepared, I think that was one of the main reasons our presentation went so well.
ReplyDelete2. During our presentation, one thing that was really funny was watching the 5th graders chosen to do the activity try to put in the footy p.j.'s. Some of them really had a hard time figuring out which sleeve was for the arms and which were for the feet. I really enjoyed watching this kids enjoy and have fun with our book and activity. After 1st hour, I had a smile on my face the entire day.
3. I feel as though one thing we could have done differently would have chosen a more age appropriate book for the presentation. Maybe if we picked a different book, maybe we would have had more undivided attention from each and every viewer. But the good thing was is that throughout the story, I saw almost all of the viewers eyes on the book. This made me feel good that most of the viewers enjoyed our book.
Ashley Wardlow 1st hour
1. it was easy and easy to remember your part of your book.
ReplyDelete2. the whole book was funny and how we acted out on some parts.
3. i would have payed more attention to the words that i said.
Jack Dunn 7th hour
1. During our preparation we did more sound effects and we were louder then we were when it really happened.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing that happened was when we handed out candy and the kid said wow candy, give them a five.
3. I would have been louder and not wasted time talking to the kids.
Nicole Farren 7th hour
I think the funniest thing that happened during the presentation was when a different word almost came out of Jacks mouth as he was saying "different animals make different kinds of sh- poop". I think we prepared pretty well and our idea was pretty good. I think we could have chosen a longer book so we wouldn't have to stall for the rest of the 6 minutes.

I thought it was a great chance to see what it was like performing in a live audience, I kind of like the chance to see what it was like. The funniest thing was that happened was when the 5th graders wouldn't really come close to us and some of their questions were funny too! So I enjoyed kind of seeing in their imagination in their faces. Some of them seemed a little too serious and looked like they did not enjoy the story. Chad Romans 7th hour 03-17-2011
ReplyDeleteI loved our presentation because It was so easy to do and it was also fun because my daddy was watching me and my group and he was also recording our voices and I also liked about our presentation because we did very well!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Me and my group did not realy have to prepare much. I think the funnist thing was having a argument about UofM and MSU. would have done nothing differently.
ReplyDelete1. We had to practice a lot and read the story over and over again. We kept reading it to fast so we we had to read slower and ask a lot of questions.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing was just acting like fish in general. It was also funny when Brenna kept saying he swam through the wind instead of water.
3. If we could have done something differently I would have talked louder and slower.
Maddie Welch 7th Hour
1. We laughed a lot before we presented and we practiced.
ReplyDelete2.The funniest thing that happened was when we were getting groups in the very beginning mr price didn't give us anyone to read to because he didn't see us.
3.I would half practiced more without laughing I like we sould have focused more.
~Cora Kroll~

1. The group I was in started late due to absent group members and problems with choosing a book. Another thing was that we got a new person in the middle of it all. In the end, everything pulled together. I had a lot of fun with my group and the book.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing that happened during the presentation was that every time we got a new group, they were covered in stickie notes from the book they heard before, which happened to be "Rainbow Fish".
3. I would have probably made the story seem more funny. The jokes in the book didn't make the children laugh, which I would have liked to hear.

1.) At first me and my group couldn't really work well together and I was trying to get them to work well together. We tried compromising, and it ended up being better than i had expected. We kept on changing a few things but overall we had a fun time.
ReplyDelete2.) One of the funniest things that happened during the presentation was when one of the fifth graders had a sucker and dropped it. They thought it was really funny, and I have to admit it was, but we took care of it and got him a new one.
3.) Something I may have done differently is having a different group of people to work with, work a little harder, and try to get a little more work done. We didn't work well together, but we some how made it work.

At first we just read the script and we were kinda boring. It was difficult to look at the audience because I hadn't practiced in front of an audience, I couldn't look at there faces without laughing. It
ReplyDeletewasn't because they were ugly it was because I felt like a fool.
I thought our costumes were the funniest thing. I looking retarded so i didn't feel so weird acting retarded. I liked reading to the little 5th graders because they were nice and they seemed to be entertained.
I would have looked at the audience and talked louder, I wish I had more lines because it was hard to act out because I barely had anything.
1. To prepare for this we had to write our script and find the book "Three Little Pigs" and go over the play and who was going to say what lines we also brought in pigs noses and signs with a huge back drop of the houses. I thought we did pretty good and turn out great.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing that happened during our performance was when we tripped over a little girl walking out of the scene.
3. What we could done differently was to go the script more and bring more props and help out more as a group.
Ali Spearin 7th hour
1. To describe my preparation for reading to the 5th graders, is everyone in the group practiced and added things in to the story, like questions, to make it longer to reach the 7 minutes and when it was a questions, we made voice as if they were answering.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing that happened while presenting was that some of the 5th graders were quit and some where hyper and how they acted after they got there candy.
3. What I would have done differently is having a more interesting story and a story that has not many people have read before. Why I think it would have been better is because having a more interesting story that many people didn't really read then it would be more fun the the 5th graders.
Allyse Weidman 7th hour 3/17/11
1.My groups preparation was pretty good but I think some times we could have been a little more serious about things. When we presented to the Navigator students we messed up once or twice but in the end it turned out really good.
ReplyDelete2.The funniest thing that happened was in the beginning when Mr.Price forgot about are group and so we had no one to read to. But then he went and got 1 kid from all of the other groups so we had someone to present to.
3.If I could do something different I think I would have had 1 more person in are group so Cora dint have to play 2 different characters.
Brooke Strine 7th Hour 3~17~11
What we did to prepare is read the book and do all of our props in the same room that we prepared in. When JJ accidentally said S-poop and everyone laughed. I would have done different things to make them laugh.
ReplyDelete~Travis Erps~
1.I Prepared for presenting by practicing with my group.
ReplyDelete2.The funniest thing that happened when we were presenting was when we were reading one of the teacher fell while they were going to sit down but it was okay so it was alright to laugh.
3.I would have practiced more productively if i could.
Shelby Leonard 7th
1. Are practice for our story "The Three Little Pigs" was confuzing. We had 4 people and 5 parts so we had to decide the parts, make coustome changes, and reherse a lot.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest part of our preformance when Stephen tripped over a girl in the audiance.
3. What I would have done differently was made sure that the book matched the script exactly so there would be less confusion.
~Holly Morgan 7th hour
It took a lot of time to prepare to read to the kids. We had to figure out who was gonna read what and how we were going to do it. We had to find all of our props and I had to type up the book which took a long time.
ReplyDeleteThe funniest thing was our dresses. They were very weird and some of them were huge or too small. I am very glad we found those dresses in Mr.Prices drama room. We talked very fast the first time and ended with 2 minutes left!
If i could have done something differently i would have talked louder and slower. We always ended at least a minute early but then we could talk to the kids.
I think was very fun and I had a fun group.

3. To make our presentation better i think i would have had another person in pur group to make things easier and i would have added more voice. I think our whole group really should have practiced more and benn more serious

1. As a group we blew off the beginning and thought it was going to be easy. But then towards the end a couple days before the play. We realized this was serious. We pulled together and rehearsed many times and it ended up going well.
ReplyDelete2. I zoned out in the middle of the play. Then all the kids looked at me like come on let's go. Then Steven said something, and i payed attention again.
3. I would have made a chimney for the three little pigs. We used each others arms and it was kind of ghetto.
Griffin Peterson 3/17/11 7th Hour
1. We rehearsed like 3 times. We kept getting better each time. After we were good we did it with props. We started to move more and show more emotion. The final performances were good.
ReplyDelete2. Griffin messed up. He said the wrong line and w all laughed. Holly messed up a couple times too.
3. Rehearsed more. If we would've rehearsed more we would've done better. I think we did good more.
Stephen Brossard 7th Hour
1. We had to practice a lot and we kept reading it to fast so we we had to read slower and ask a lot of questions.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing was when Maddie acted like an Octopus and had to wear a M&M costume.
3.If we could have done something differently is that I would practice and I would want maybe more lines to read next time.
Lynsey Brown 7th Hour
1. To prepare for this activity, my group and I had to choose a book that we all agreed on. Then we had to work as a team to figure out who was going to be the reader and who's going to be the page flipper.
ReplyDelete2. The funniest thing during our presentation was watching all the kids try to put on the pajamas and collect all the toys.
3. If I had to pick anything to do differently I think that all the readers in our group could have had more voice when reading.

1.) During our practice in the storybook presentation we were very un-productive, we couldn't really focus...but when we did we got our work done
2.) The funnest thing that happened was when the 5th graders kept guessing what was going to happen in the story and got it right, and we couldn't give it away so we just had to smile and try to hide it
3.) I would have made the kids interact more with the story if I did something different.

ReplyDeleteResponse to Lynsey Brown's comment:
Lynsey's group shares some similarities to my group. We read fast at some points and our page turner couldn't keep up. We also read too slow and the page turner went too fast. I funny part wasn't in our props but in our preveiw of calling one of the kids a goat. In our story book we didn't need much practice. Some wish they had more speaking parts because there are only two characters in the book to speak as.
I am responding to nameless, and I feel as though this person did an OK job but could have put more effort into pushing themselves to get out of there comfort zone and really become a serious performer. If they would have done this, maybe they wouldn't have felt so uncomfortable during the final performance.

I agree with Ashley Wardlow because having the group working together and working hard when we were practicing. Also when my group did the presentation it was fun and funny to see what the 5th graders did and how they reacted our story. I also agree that make group should of chosen a better book to read to 5th graders because the book that we read was for more pre-schoolers and kinder gardeners.
